Information reviewed September 11, 2026. Programs, funding and requirements can change. Use the official links below to confirm the terms that apply to your project before purchasing equipment. An advertised maximum is not a guaranteed rebate for every home.

Start with Your Electric and Gas Utilities

JCP&L: The utility’s HVAC Equipment Rebates page lists qualifying heat pumps, central air conditioners and other eligible equipment, with efficiency requirements and application links. Match the full equipment combination to the program rules; a brand name or ENERGY STAR label alone does not establish the amount you will receive.

New Jersey Natural Gas: SAVEGREEN’s residential HVAC and water-heating application page describes its equipment rebates and required documentation. It currently asks for photos of existing furnaces or boilers being replaced, a paid receipt and proof of permit. Check eligibility, purchase and installation deadlines, and the application deadline directly with the program before committing to a project.

If another utility serves your property, start with that provider’s current program. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities residential program directory is a useful starting point for efficiency and income-qualified assistance. Ask which program applies to your account and whether an assessment or prior approval is required.

Federal Tax Credits: Check the Installation Year

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under Section 25C is no longer available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Do not include that former credit as an expected discount on a new 2026 HVAC installation. The IRS credit guidance explains the applicable period and qualifying requirements. For a prior-year installation or questions about your tax return, consult a tax professional.

Keep Rebates, Financing and Contractor Offers Separate

A rebate generally requires program eligibility and an application. Financing is a payment arrangement that must be repaid under its agreement. A contractor or manufacturer promotion has its own terms and expiration date. Review each separately, and confirm any combination rules before adding savings together. See Oceanside’s financing information and current specials for the offers available through the company.

Prepare Before Choosing Equipment

Have your utility details, existing equipment information and project goals ready. Ask for the proposed model numbers, any required matched-system certification, the installation scope and an itemized estimate. Confirm who will submit the application and which receipts, photos, permits or other records must be kept. Save copies of the program terms and submitted documents for your records.

A rebate should support a suitable installation, not determine the equipment choice by itself. Capacity, comfort needs, electrical requirements and the condition of the existing system all affect the project. New Jersey Incentive Questions

Does every heat pump qualify for a rebate?

No. Programs set requirements for the equipment, property, utility account and installation. Confirm the complete proposed system against the current eligibility rules before purchase.

Can I combine my gas and electric utility rebates?

Combination rules vary. Ask both programs whether they allow the same project to receive multiple incentives and which costs or equipment each covers. Do not assume advertised maximums can simply be added together.

Will Oceanside’s estimate guarantee my rebate?

The program administrator determines eligibility and payment. Review any estimated incentive separately from the installation price, and confirm the application responsibilities and documentation before work begins.

Is there a federal 25C credit for an installation in 2026?

No. The IRS states that the credit does not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Prior-year eligibility is a separate tax matter and depends on the rules for that installation.

Should I apply before or after installation?

It depends on the program. Some steps may need to happen before work starts, while a rebate application may require a completed installation and paid invoice. Read the current instructions early so you do not miss a required step or deadline.
